In 1996 was the initial public release of GIMP (0.54). The acronym was coined first, with the letter G being added to -IMP as a reference to "the gimp" in the scene from the 1994 Pulp Fiction film. In 1995, Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis began developing GIMP – originally named General Image Manipulation Program – as a semester-long project at the University of California, Berkeley for the eXperimental Computing Facility.

UFRAW FOR GIMP MAC INSTALL
In Debian you can get these packages with the command (requires root privelege): apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev liblcms-dev libgimp2.0-dev libtiff-dev libjpeg62-dev libpng12-dev libexiv2-dev zlib1g-dev libbz2-dev libgtkimageview-dev The libgtkimageview-dev package only exists in Debian testing and unstable. The others are optional, their relevant features will be enabled if they are found during configuration. This option is experimental.Įnable with./configure -with-lensfun. lensfun is required to apply lens correction. To be able to scroll the preview window you need (libgtkimageview=1.3). To read bzipped raw files you need libbz2. Exiv2 is required for EXIF support (does not support all camera models) (libexiv2=0.11). Libcfitsio3 is required to create FITS images. libjpeg is required to create JPEG images. libtiff is required to create TIFF images. To build the Cinepaint plug-in you need Cinepaint (cinepaint=0.22).
To build the Gimp plug-in you need Gimp (gimp=2.0). For color management you need Little CMS (liblcms=1.13). The Gimp Tool Kit, GTK+2 (libgtk2.0=2.6).
The following development packages are relevant for building UFRaw. Let me know if your system is not supported for some reason. I'm using on a Pentium machine, but UFRaw can be built on different Unix flavors and many different architectures. To build UFRaw yourself you can either read the detailed instructions below or just it and get the shorter version in the README file. If you want the latest and greatest version of UFRaw you'll might have to build it yourself. It sometimes takes time until these packages are updated. Good news everyone! If you downloaded GIMP from this site UFRAW may have come with your GIMP installation.
